Project Management Program Refresh Summary.pdf
Project Management is a field that constantly changes according to new trends in technologies, tools, and platforms. In this program refresh, we are updating the curricula to ensure that our Project Management program stays current with these developments. The goal of the program refresh is to accomplish the following:
The changes to the program are summarized here, along with brief descriptions of the reasoning behind each change.
For a more detailed description of all changes, as well as Curriculum Committee feedback, please see Section 4 in the Appendix section at the end of this document.
New course added: PROJM II - Career Navigation and Exploration in Project Management
New course added: PROJM IV - Managing Risk and Uncertainty
Focuses on identifying, planning for, and mitigating risks across the project lifecycle.
Reasoning for change:
Risk management represents about 12% of the CAPM exam content, making it one of the most heavily weighted topics in the certification. While the project planning course focuses on predictable elements, this course serves as its essential counterpart - teaching students how to anticipate, assess, and respond to the uncertainties inherent in any project. Risk management is also highly valued by major organizations such as Boeing, McKinsey, and the World Bank. These organizations recognize that effective risk management is essential for the successful delivery of complex projects.
Finally, the Project Management Institute (PMI) has conducted research indicating that organizations with mature risk management practices have a higher project success rate. Specifically, PMI's Pulse of the Profession report highlights that organizations with high project management maturity levels are more likely to achieve their goals. The report underscores the significant positive impact of mature risk management on project outcomes.
